I have tried a solution found on web, "Options--> Advanced-->Gereral-->"Ignore other applications that use dynamic data exchange (DDE)". WebBoth messages give clues as to what's going on. The first one is rather direct; the second one a bit more subtle. The first message mentions an OLE action.We don't need to go into what all that means, and in fact you may already know, but the important thing here is that 1) MathType is already open and 2) there is likely a MathType dialog open as well.

My issue seems to come if I have two excel spreadsheets open at the same time and I'm tabbing between them, opening excel in safe mode , repairing excel, or closing other applications all don't help, it's an issue within excel itself which comes up if there are two spreadsheets open.
